    Admission Policy

    Health Services Academy Islamabad offers admissions in doctoral, undergraduate and graduate programs in various disciplines. Admissions to different programs are offered in fall and spring semesters (twice a year) i.e. in Dec – Jan and July – Aug. There is no arbitrary age limit for the applicants. The institution is open to all persons of either gender and of any religion, color, creed, class or domicile who are academically qualified for the courses of studies offered by the Health Services Academy Islamabad. International students are encouraged to apply.

    PhD Selection Criteria:

    The allocation for determining merit shall be as follows:

    • Selection will be based on Qualification/academic record, Entry test, and Interviews. The assigned weightings would be: previous academic record 30%; Test 35%; Interview 35%;
    • Statement of Purpose (Two pager)
    • Interview on Research Topic
    • GRE/GAT Subject having minimum 70% marks, if international 60% marks would be acceptable)

    1. Qualification
    2. Before admission into a Ph.D. program, the student shall have been awarded an MS/MPhil or equivalent degree as described in this policy.

    OR

    1. Students pursuing MS/MPhil studies and interested in continuing to PhD may be granted provisional admission upon satisfaction with the Admission Committee regarding the Statement of Purpose and students’ commitment to the Ph.D. program if confirmation of the admission shall be subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions within a period of one year from the date of provisional admission:
    2. Award of MS/MPhil degree, as prescribed in this policy.

    b. Clearance of the admission test, as prescribed in this policy

    Indra-disciplinary Qualifications

    Consistent with best practices internationally (including leading global universities), intradisciplinary admissions may only be allowed, if:

    1. The applicant has a strong interest in pursuing a PhD in a different discipline.
    2. The applicant has passed GRE-Subject/Equivalent Test6 with a minimum of 50% marks in the discipline of admission and has taken 6-9 CH of deficiency courses of level 7.

    iii. The admission committee is satisfied that the applicant’s knowledge of the primary area (level 7) has sufficiently prepared him or her to undertake the course of study of the doctoral program (or, in the opinion of the admissions committee, the preparation can be deemed satisfactory by taking a few additional courses after starting the program).

    1. 3. Eligibility Criteria – CGPA
    2. a) For admission in Ph.D. programs, a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the semester system7) or 60% (in the annual system) in the MS/MPhil/equivalent degree in Public Health and Allied Health Sciences being considered for admission, is required, whether such degree was obtained from Pakistani or foreign universities.
    3. b) If the CGPA/Percentage is not mentioned on the transcript, the candidate must produce equivalent weightage from the parent university.
    4. c) The students who have strong demonstrated interest in obtaining a Ph.D. degree, but whose CGPA is below 3.00 (out of 4.0 in the semester system) or 60% marks (in the annual system) in the most recent degree obtained, may be admitted to a Ph.D. program after fulfilling the following requirements:
    5. Shall study additional courses of 9-12 CH of level 7 taking a zero semester at admission awarding university/HEI/DAI and score a minimum 3.00 out of 4.00 GPA, and
    6. The admission committee is satisfied that the applicant’s knowledge of the primary area (level 7) has sufficiently prepared him or her to undertake the course of studies of the doctoral program.

    iii. These requirements shall be in addition to any other requirements set in this policy for admission to a Ph.D. program.

    2. a) HSA will conduct the test equivalent to GRE/HAT General developed at the HSA. The passing score of 60%.
    3. 5. Statement of Purpose

    Applicants shall be required to submit a statement of purpose, which shall form an integral part of the application. The admissions committee shall use the information provided to ascertain the preparedness and interest of the candidate in pursuing doctoral studies, and whether the department has the requisite resources to train and supervise the doctoral candidate in the subspecialty in which the applicant is interested. A statement of purpose shall, at least, include the following:

    1. Title of the potential research proposal
    2. Clear articulation of the current understanding of the intended field and ideas for potential research

    iii. Explanation of the intended impact of the proposed research

    1. The prospective candidates shall demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for the area of research.

    The candidate should possess one of the following qualifications or an equivalent degree from a recognized university or accrediting body.

    • M.Sc./BSc. Degree in Biology/Zoology/Microbiology/Biochemistry/Environmental Health sciences/ Agriculture Entomology and Pharmacy / Nursing

    The Program is also intended for student having Master and/or 04 years BA/B.Sc. degree with 2.5 CGPA out of 4.0 or equivalent in any field such as Anthropology, Business Administration, Economics, Human Nutrition, Microbiology, Physiology, Psychology, Public Health, Engineering, Sociology, Statistics and Zoology.

    Diploma in Family Medicine (01 Year)
    • M.B.B.S from a P.M.C recognized medical college
    • Valid P.M.C registration
    • One-year House Job in a P.M.C recognized training

    Clinical experience of working in public or private primary health care facility will be preferred.

    Diploma in Professional HRM in Healthcare (16 weeks)Minimum 16 years of education from HEC recognized university. Or any other relevant qualification.

    FCPS Community Medicine Part-II

    Training ProgramEligibility & Selection Criteria (as per approved HEC criteria)
    FCPS Community Medicine Part – IIFCPS Part – I Community Medicine qualified.
    • Submission of application forms date is 2nd August 2024
    • Admission form is available on HSA website www.hsa.edu.pk. Candidates are required to apply online, no paper copy will be entertained. Applicants are advised to upload all required documents, uploading of irrelevant document shall leads towards the cancellation of candidature.
    • Incomplete applications will not be entertained. Only short-listed candidates will be called for test/interviews.
    • No TA/DA is admissible for appearing in the test/interview.
    • Foreign students are encouraged to apply
    • Government employees can send their applications in advance. However, they are advised to complete formal process of NOC from their departments in order to enroll in the course.
    • The applicants are advised to confirm eligibility before online processing of admission form. Admission will be cancelled without any refund at any stage if a candidate/student is found ineligible as per advertisement OR any degree / certificate proves to be fake / unrecognized.
