Dr Khan has been teaching at the Health Services Academy since 2000. Currently, he is an Associate Professor and Controller of Examination of the Academy. He is also coordinator of the ORIC of the HSA and Chairman of its Steering Committee.
During his academic tenure at the HSA, he has taught almost all the courses offered in the MPH and later the MSPH courses. His special interests are in Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Injuries and communicable and non-communicable diseases. He has supervised more than 50 masters theses. He is also trained more than 200 professionals in Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies course for which he is a qualified instructor. He is also a master trainer for MISP course for Reproductive Health in crises.

Dr Khan also has vast experience of programme management where he has had headed the Health Emergency Preparedness Cell of the Ministry of Heath and Expanded Programme on Immunization in addition to his academic responsibilities.
He has been involved in high quality evidence synthesis by working with the Global Burden of Disease team. This work is highly acknowledged throughout the world, and is important in making public health policies and cost-effective interventions.
He has more than 200 published research items with about 130 articles. Most of his publications are in the top most reputed international journals (The Lancet, The Nature, BMJ, American Journal of Cardiology, International Journal of Public injury preventions journal etc.,)
